God is satisfied with her contentment and becomes angry from her anger. The contentment of Fatima is my contentment, her anger is my anger. Whosoever loves my daughter Fatima loves me. Whosoever makes Fatima content makes me content. Whosoever makes Fatima unhappy makes me unhappy. Fatima is a part of my body. Whosoever hurts her, has hurt me, and whosoever hurts me, has hurt God.
Earlier a woman did not inherit anything from her family except a lifelong regret for being alive. Fatima is believed to have inherited the essence of what Muhammad was trying to say and do. Fatima is loved to this day for being one of the few to have followed in her fatherâs footsteps to the end of her life. Through the family of her children, Hasan and Husain, her followers founded the Fatimid Dynasty that ruled large parts of North Africa, including Cairo, between 909 AD and 1171 AD and which tried to emulate the virtues of modesty and humility as practised by Fatima. The role that the memory of Fatima continues to play in keeping alive the spirit and values closest to Muhammadâs heart is yet another defiance of the savage tribal tradition of giving importance only to male heirs. It is the Fatimid rulers who chose green as the colour of Islam in a symbolic allegiance to Ali, Muhammadâs cousin and husband of Fatima, who had wrapped himself in a green cover and laid down in place of Muhammad to abort an assassination attempt on the life of the Prophet.
Muhammad compared himself to a tree, Fatima to the trunk and Ali to its pollen. Hasan and Husain were called the fruits of the tree and their followers its leaves. Today all those who claim their faith and ancestry from the children of Fatima and Ali are known as Shia Muslims and it is believed that only through them Muhammad continues to have descendants.
